Arnold Arlie Abbe, age 88, of Comins, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2010, at his home.  In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place.  A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arnold was born on February 1, 1922 to Basil and Beatrice (Sample) Abbe in Rust Township, MI and moved Comins as a boy. He married Veronica Fern (Lunning) Abbe 67 years ago.  He moved to Detroit and worked for the Tank Arsenal during WWII.  Later he returned to Comins; working briefly for Oscoda County before becoming a self-employed woodsman and trapper.  He played on the Comins baseball team for many years and enjoyed all sports, especially fishing.  He cherished the times travelling to Longlac, Canada, for fishing trips with his wife and his brother Royce.

Surviving are his wife Veronica F. Abbe; his daughter Neomi (Eugene) Schanck of Lewiston; his sister Gloria (Frank) Emig of Comins; his brother Royce Abbe of Mio; 5 grandchildren:  Todd, George, Narcy, Dud, and Tara; 6 great grandchildren:  Jesse, Emily, Bridget, Nicky, Kole, and Courtney; 1 great-great granddaughter Rachel; several nieces and nephews; and his “best friend”-his dog Blade.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Virgil Abbe; his brother Asil Abbe; and his grandson Virgie Abbe.
